Burlap Wreath

I needed a new wreath for my front door and a burlap wreath seemed like just the thing. I got the largest wreath form they had at Joannes, and I wish I had done a bit smaller. I followed the instructions here:

Master Bedroom Remodel

A couple of years ago, I wanted to repaint our bedroom. We had gotten this nice new bedroom set and the wood blended in with the walls. I wanted a blue, but my husband is all about this green. So we went for it. It is bright, but fun. You can get a closer look at the pillows on this post: http://valscreations.blogspot.com/2012/03/master-bedroom-pillows.html

Happy Halloween Blocks

Here are some simple Halloween blocks I made this year at a church activity. You start with 2x4s cut the size you want. Paint those the color you want them. Mod podge scrapbook paper onto them. Then follow with lettering (these are vinyl). You then can finish off with some decorative tulle.

Great Room Pillows

I did this a little over a year ago...

These are the pillows for my great room. Love them! Love the colors.

Initials

McKenna moved in with Kaitlyn, so I needed to take the old K and P and change them to K and M.

I got the letters at Hobby Lobby. Once again, my husband spray painted them for me. We covered a board with fabric, then put a molding frame around it and attached the letter to the center. Add some ribbon and you are done!

Name letters

For Brinley's nursery, I got these letters at Hobby Lobby. I painted them pink, then cut a sponge into the shape of a circle and dipped brown circles on the letters.

Great Room Decorations

After we did our Kitchen Remodel, we needed to do some rearranging in our great room. This is what we did. I also did new pillows and runners to bring in a new accent color.

I bought a can of spray paint and painted some things this great blue. In the top picture, you can see a wreath on the wall that I spray painted. This was very easy to do. You can also see a blue frame in the hutch. I had my husband spray paint this--he is very good at spray painting. He also spray painted a frame that you might be able to see in the bottom picture if you have a good eye.

I found some great fabric and made new pillows and runners (I will get close up on those in another post).

We love the new layout and the new color scheme!

Dresser Make-Over

This dresser has been in my family for many, many years. This thing has been around at least since the 60s. It was mine growing up. I always had it a nice white. I decided for Brayden, it needed some sprucing up. My husband spray painted the top, sides, front, and handles a navy blue. I re-painted the drawers white. It is fun!

Berry Wreath

I discovered this super fun craft night from On The Avenue:

Last month, I made this berry wreath as one of my projects. Love it!

Curtain Revamp

Bad picture above, sorry. I tried to find a "before" of these, but I couldn't. When we moved here, I took a large curtain I had and cut it in half to make these two curtains--never knowing exactly where I would go. I then hung them up with a swag in the middle and then they hung partially down the length of the window on each side...and there they stayed for nearly 1.5 years (but, hey, 1.5 years when you have three kids isn't that long really).

I had different ideas, but never something I loved. I finally decided I wanted to finish off this room once and for all and also that I didn't want to spend any money to do so. I knew I could get inspiration if I put my mind and heart into it, and this is what I ended up with. I like it. Best of all--it was free!

Wreath Holder

My friend Laura and I were shopping one day and saw something like this, so naturally I asked Nate to make one! It is beadboard with moldings around the outside. I painted it black. I might distress it. It holds a seasonal wreath. I love it!

Wood Shelf

So fabulous. That is a great blog. So I informed my husband of this great tutorial and informed him he would be making it for me :) I painted, he hung.

Here it is with some leaves on it. It is a great shelf for warming up the room. This picture was taken a month ago, so I have more to show you soon :)

Decorating Idea: Curtain Rod

The photo is terrible, but here is an idea for you. My SIL saw something similar to this at a store once. She used the idea to mod podge letters of her daughter's name (A M Y) and h and hang those. It turned out super cute.

But my kids names are much longer than that. I went with this. I got the letters K and P from Hobby Lobby. I got the frame from IKEA. The rod was in the house when we bought it. I will have to try to get a better picture. That is awful. But the idea is cute! Oh, I found this one:

PS wondering where I have been? I have been MIA because my computer contracted a virus, followed by our hard drive dying...so after more than two weeks, I finally am back--hopefully for good.

Vinyl Wall Clock

We have this clock on our wall in our family room. Literally everyone who sees it comments on how cool it is--no matter the age.

Here is the best part. It is at Hobby Lobby for I think it is 30-50? And it goes on sale for 40-50% off all the time. So you can get this large clock for a rather inexpensive price!

We had one in our old house, too, in our master bedroom. We obviously couldn't transfer it with us, so it is still there and the new owners are enjoying it.

Decorating Idea: More Grouping

Here is another example of a place I have grouped things on the wall in my home. This is in the hall, so that is why the picture is not good. That P is so great, I got it at Hobby Lobby. Notice also that all of my frames are different. We once would try to have matching frames, but then things would happen like somebody would knock one down and break it while he moved things up and down the stairs (that would be my husband) or we would want to add a frame because we had a new baby, so we decided the best idea was to have different frames. They are all black, but all different. There is also a mirror there.

Decorating Idea: Wall Groupings

I like grouping things on othe wall. Here is one of our walls with our grouping. Maybe it can give you some inspiration if you are looking for it :).

Decorating Idea: Old Cupboard Doors

My mother-in-law gave me this idea and this cupboard door :)

All you do is get an old cupboard door, remove hardware, and paint it if desired.

Then you get a framed picture of your choice and mount it to the cupboard door. Then put the whole thing on your wall, shelf, or whatever.

Decorating Idea: The Square Picture Collage

I am slowly working on decorating Brayden's room.

I am really loving this look right now. You take four square frames and put them in a square on the wall, like so:

And here it is on the context of the room:

I got these frames at Hobby Lobby.

You could do any number you like. You could do six and put them in a rectangle...

The Nursery

Here is McKenna's room all put together.
Here we have the decoupaged letters, the memory board, and the runner for the dresser. This is the wall we painted brown for our accent wall. We also textured and painted the ceiling (it was tan) and changed the light from a fluorescent light to two light fixtures and a ceiling fan.

Here you can see the crib with bumpers and a bedskirt.

Here you can see the runner for the nightstand, the lamp shade we changed, the decoupaged mirror, the quilt, and the pillow. You can also see the nightstand. This was an ugly brown. Nate painted about a million coats on it to get it just right. He also changed the knob. It is really cute now.
Here you can see the curtains. You can also see the window cover for the half-circle window. Nate made this out of wood then covered it with fabric. It can be removed to let light in. These are new windows we installed (by "we" I mean Nate). We also bought new blinds.

Here you can see the diaper stacker and basket liners. We also painted the flower holding the diaper stacker to match the room. It was just rough wood.

Another view of the changing table.

There you have it! We love this little room for McKenna. It is cozy and quiet and beautiful. It took a lot of work, but it was all worth it.
