Re-using--get some paint

When I changed the color scheme of this room, I wanted to spruce up some of our items with some paint. My husband is very handy with the spray paint, so I asked him to paint a few things.

The first I actually did--it is the blue wreath shown in this picture:

It was an easy way to add some color. Those wreaths are very cheap at Hobby Lobby. Use a coupon or wait for the sale and it is even cheaper.

This one was red, which matched our previous colors. My husband painted this one blue.

See that black frame on the bottom right? Just barely? That is why I wanted it painted. It blended in

Spray paint to the rescue.

This was for a different room--our master. My husband was in love with this color so we went for it...This one I just used regular paint since it matched perfectly what we were already doing.

Bunk Beds

Last year--July-August of 2012 (yes, I am that far behind)--my husband built this set of bunk beds for our kids. We were expecting our fourth child and needed to do some room sharing. This spot was a great spot in the room, but it was just not quite wide enough to put pre-made bunk beds in the space. So he built them in place. Those things are never moving.

He did some other cool stuff for them. He wired in a light with each bed so they can read at night. He also added shelves at the head of the bed.

Each bed also has a "treasure box." Under the bottom shelf, you can pull down the opening and fit a whole lot of treasures inside. Our kids love it!

Happy Halloween Blocks

Here are some simple Halloween blocks I made this year at a church activity. You start with 2x4s cut the size you want. Paint those the color you want them. Mod podge scrapbook paper onto them. Then follow with lettering (these are vinyl). You then can finish off with some decorative tulle.

Weekly Organizer

I saw this on Pinterest and happened to have this exact frame. It is just a collage frame with scrapbook papers in each picture slot. Then you write down the things you have going on. I have permanent things written in wet erase marker and then write in other things in dry erase.

Simple Blackout Curtains

About a year and a half ago (yes, I am that slow here), I made some blackout curtains for a room my girls would be sharing. The one moving in likes to sleep in dark rooms, so I needed to darken this bright place. The one who already had this room wanted pink curtains. I got the light pink and the dark pink to line, but it still let too much light through. My 7 year old son suggested I put a black between the two fabrics. So that is just what I did!

You can see it is just a large square large enough to cover the window. Then I use ribbons to tie it up. And over the last 1.5 years, I have gotten lazy about getting a chair so I can tie these things up each day. So I take one ribbon and tie it in the middle of the curtain (so the ribbon is horizontal) and it still let's through a lot of light for daytime. Hopefully you know what I mean by that.

Christmas PJs

Here are the PJs I made for the kids for Christmas this year. For the girls, I went with nightgowns. I debated since pants are MUCH faster to make, but I figured they would be excited for nightgowns. And I was so right!

I had extra material for Brayden so I made him a matching pillowcase.

I didn't make pajamas for Brinley--I wouldn't put her in them at this age so I decided to just not make any...and believe it or not it was hard for me. I have a hard time leaving her out, but it was impractical.

Kaitlyn Quilt

Kaitlyn super-loves Hello Kitty right now. She is sharing a room with Brayden, so I thought it would be a good theme to use to make her a quilt that could match his room but still be girly. She got this for Christmas. I went with large squares so you could see the kitty stuff well.

I also made a pillowcase and two pillows...I will have to find a picture of those.
