Place Mat Bags

We made these bags in Young Womens a while ago.

This first one is a scripture bag. It fits normal sized scriptures in sideways. It is made out of one place mat. You can also turn the place mat the other way, cut some edge off, and make a bag to hold the small quads standing straight up.

This one is made from two place mats and is large enough to hold a binder.

These are really easy to make and just a simple bag.

Very cute. I have seen these one before but had forgotten about them. How did you sew the placemat so it made a box? Just curious.

Val, how do you sew these? They are precious. I would love to make some for myself, and Avery.

This is how:

You take a placemat.

Fold it in half so it is the size you want it to be.

Sew the sides shut.

Then you sew the corners so there is a triangle of fabric...this is to make the bottom flat.

Sew on some handles and whatever embellishments you want and you are done!
